Our Team
Candace Currie
Candace has been a green burial advocate since she saw an inventory of concrete grave liners waiting to be installed in conventional graves at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge and Watertown, MA. She asked, why is a concrete box going into the ground when a simple casket would suffice? Her two decades of experience at Mount Auburn Cemetery and eight years with the Green Burial Council help answer questions like this one. Candace is adamant that anyone who chooses a green burial should be able to get one in their local or regional cemetery.
Stephen Jackson
As a user experience engineer and horticulturist, my professional career path has gone in seemingly different directions. Merging two skill sets under GIS has allowed me to combine my strengths, enabling me to understand and blend client needs with environmental needs in the landscape. I have worked in a wide variety of settings over the past 30 years, ranging from dot.com era start-ups to IBM; from private estate gardens to Mount Auburn Cemetery; and currently as a founding member of GardenGIS, LLC. Since moving to Western Massachusetts in 2018 my work has focused on local area burial sites, seeking suitable land for green burial cemeteries, and mapping the region’s historic cemeteries. I have gotten to know the landscape through these projects as well as one-on-one garden consulting to private clients, advocating for native plantings and increasing wildlife habitat.
I’d love to discuss your planting design, land use, or other GIS needs.
